What it costs to replace a laptop screen
Pricing depends on the laptop and the panel type. Some honest ballparks:
- Non-touch PC laptop: $100 labor + roughly $80–$200 for the panel.
- Touch / 2-in-1 PC laptop: $150 labor + roughly $180–$400 for the panel (touch digitizer adds cost).
- MacBook Air / MacBook Pro (pre-2021): $150 labor + $200–$600 for the LCD assembly.
- 2021+ MacBooks (M1 Pro/Max, M2, M3 Pro/Max): We don’t service these in-house yet. We’ll refer you to a board-level shop that does.
Call us with your laptop model — most often we can quote the part the same call.
Cracked screen but the image is fine — should I just live with it?
No. A cracked LCD/OLED panel will keep spreading from temperature changes and pressure when you close the lid. Cracks also let in dust and moisture. The fix doesn’t get cheaper by waiting; it usually gets worse when the backlight or hinges fail too.
Common symptoms — and what they mean
- Spider-web cracks in the glass. Touch screens often still work; non-touch LCDs are usually dead. Either way, replace the panel.
- Vertical lines, horizontal bars, half the screen blank. LCD ribbon cable or backlight failure. New panel fixes it.
- Black screen but external monitor works. Could be the panel, the ribbon, or the inverter (older laptops). Free diagnostic isolates which one.
- Ghosting / image retention. Pixel damage; replacement is the only real fix.
- Hinge cracked the corner of the lid. We replace the hinge and the panel together so the new screen doesn’t crack the same way next year.
Frequently asked questions
▸Can you replace my MacBook screen?
Yes for most MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models up to 2020 — $150 labor plus parts. For 2021 and later (M1 Pro/Max, M2, M3) the screen is not user-serviceable to the level we currently support; we’ll refer you to a board-level shop.
▸How long does the repair take?
Same day or next day on most popular models if we have the panel in stock. If the panel has to be ordered, plan 3–5 business days.
▸Do you use OEM screens or aftermarket?
OEM-grade panels matched to your laptop’s exact part number — same resolution, refresh rate, brightness and connector. We don’t use cheap aftermarket panels; the picture quality difference is obvious and the failure rates are much higher.
▸Is the touch / digitizer extra?
If your laptop has a touch screen, the replacement panel includes the digitizer — that’s why touch-screen replacements are $150 labor instead of $100. Total parts cost can be $180–$400 depending on the model.
▸Do you offer a warranty on the new screen?
90-day warranty on the panel and the labor. If the panel fails from a manufacturing defect we replace it; physical damage from a new drop is not covered.
